Have not apply for 'MyKad' yet!!! It is free till 31st Dec 2005..only 3 days left!! This system was launched in 5th September 2001. Found out that i could apply for it in JB but where?? Can't seem to check in the http://www.jpn.gov.my website. The same thing appears..'could not open the page because the server stopped responding'. PUTRAJAYA, Dec 28 -- The old identity card is still valid for use in all official transactions after Dec 31 until a date to be determined later, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Azmi Khalid. "The government has not determined the date when the old identity cards would become invalid," he told reporters, here Wednesday. At the same time, he said, the government would also not extend the period for free conversion to the MyKad which would end on Saturday whereby a certain fee would be imposed for conversion after that date. Azmi said the fee to be imposed for converting the old identity card into MyKad would be decided by the Cabinet next week, and gave an assurance that the amount would not be a burden to the people.as of Tuesday, there were about 1.2 million people who had yet to change their old identity card to the MyKad. "Most of them may comprise students or those working abroad. They will be given exemption from paying the fee to be charged," he said.(how about me in Singapore?? ).Those staying in remote areas such as in Sabah and Sarawak who had difficulty going out to change their old identity card would also be exempted from paying the fee, he said.
